Hotel near Malahide Castle & Gardens

For over 800 years Malahide castle & gardens have stood proud on over 260 acres of lush Irish parkland waiting for you to discover it. Originally owned by the Talbot family, they called the castle home for multiple generations.

King Henry II gifted the lands and harbour of Malahide to Richard Talbot in 1185 as a reward for his services to the crown. The castle was originally a wooden fortress and only took its stone structure shape over the subsequent years. The Talbots lived in the castle for eight centuries between 1185 and 1973, only leaving for 11 years from 1649 to 1660 when the castle was occupied by Cromwellian soldiers.

The final Baron, Lord Milo Talbot, lived in the castle until his death in 1973 when the estate was subsequently sold to the Irish State shortly after. Malahide Castle has since hosted a number of international leaders and summits, concerts and regularly welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

There are plenty of things to do at Malahide castle including the wonderful Fairy Trail, magical castle tours, and even a locomotive train that drives from Malahide Castle.
