From popular food festivals, to festivals of the arts, Galway – the festival capital of Ireland – will have something to suit every taste throughout the year.

Galway Races

The Galway Races take place in July every year and sees racing enthusiasts flock from all over to soak up the incredible atmosphere that this great city provides. Each year, on the Thursday of the festival, Ladies descend on the racetrack to showcase their latest fashions while enjoying the races. It’s one of the most popular days of the festival – with revellers enjoying the after party on Galway’s popular streets late into the night. This is a festival not to be missed in Galway, and Clayton Hotel Galway is conveniently located opposite the race track which means it’s the perfect place to stay during your visit.

Galway Arts Festival

Galway Arts Festival is another popular festival that takes place in Galway every year in July. This festival takes in a mix of music, visual arts, theatre and performance to entertain the crowds each year. You’ll find yourself wandering the beautifully cobbled streets of Galway City with surprise street performances on every corner; from giant puppets, to incredible music to entertaining musicians and everything in between. The Festival Big Top is located in the centre of Galway City across from Galway Cathedral. It provides one of the most recognised landmarks of the event and here you’ll find bars, music and some great areas to dance the night away.

Other festivals that take place in Galway every year include Galway Food Festival (which is usually around March), The Clarenbridge Oyster Festival, the Burren Slow Food Festival, the Galway Film Fleadh and much more. If you love festivals, you will love this beautiful city.
