Environment And Social Responsibility Policy

Our Environment Policy

Committing to Green Tourism is very important for us at Clayton Hotel Chiswick. We love our hotel, our local area, and our city and we strive to minimise the impact that we as a hotel have on the environment.

We pride ourselves on introducing and offering innovative green solutions across our business. We care about and look after our staff, our customers, our community, and our environment in many ways, from sourcing sustainable suppliers, using eco-friendly and recyclable products, promoting green tourist activities and travel, training our employees in environmental awareness, and following industry guidelines and best practices.

A Welcome from Our Environmental Committee

Our Environmental Committee is made up of team members across different departments and our aim is to make our hotel and community around us a more sustainable place. We welcome any feedback from our guests, suppliers, or visitors that will assist us in achieving our goal! We meet regularly and we will ensure to discuss all feedback that we receive.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme

Green Tourism Business scheme is relevant to all tourism enterprises of any size and location. Whichever form of tourism it applies to, Green Tourism businesses are actively involved in reducing the impact their business has on the environment.

We are delighted to be involved at the Clayton Hotel Chiswick and we attained our first Bronze Green Tourism accreditation back in 2017. Since then, we have put our environmental activities to the forefront and are proud to have achieved our current Gold accreditation.

TripAdvisor GreenLeaders

Developed in consultation with the Carbon Trust, the UK Green Building Council, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the International Tourism Partnership, the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders programme aims to help travellers around the world plan greener trips by highlighting hotels and B&Bs engaging in environmentally-friendly practices. We are delighted to tiered as Silver in this programme and the accreditation can be seen on our TripAdvisor page.

Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Below are just a few of the initiatives that we have implemented to reduce our impact on the environment:
We are committed to change all of our lightings within the building to LED and where possible install further sensors.

  • We have removed note pads, pencils and excess printed materials from our bedrooms to reduce our paper consumption.
  • We have a reuse towel policy in place to reduce the amount of energy, water, and chemical products being used in the cleaning process by asking guests to consider re-using towels when staying multiple nights.
  • We changed our individual bottles of soaps to single dispensers saving approximately 192,000 miniature plastic bottles per year.
  • We work with our waste company to ensure that our waste is zero to landfill.
  • We continue to plant in our hotel surroundings and increase our plants year on year.
  • We have donated to Bees &Co assisting them in their work to protect the bee population.
  • We have adapted our menu to include more vegan and environmentally friendly dishes, more British grown, produced and responsibly sourced products. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure this in the food chain.
  • We encourage our staff members and guests to travel to the hotel by means of public transportation, walk or cycle and we offer cycle spaces and provide the cycle to work scheme to our employees.
  • We have an Environmental Committee that meets on a regular basis to discuss environmental improvements that can be made within the business.
  • Changes have been made within the property to decrease the impact on the environment. We aim to decrease our consumption of electricity, fossil fuel, waste, and water year on year and we have incorporated accurate and on-demand reporting to assist us with this task.
  • The hotel has put in place an Environmental and Social Responsibility policy along with a Responsible Business Statement.
  • We raise awareness, encourage participation, and train employees in environmentally sound business practices.
  • We comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice.
  • We completed our wild flower garden project in 2021.
  • We have reduced printing in the hotel by over 50% in the past two years.
  • We litter pick in our surroundings to assist in keeping our local community around the hotel clean.
