Great Ormond Street Hospital
Clayton Hotels is delighted to be working with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to raise money for essential accommodation for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) patients and their families. With funds raised, we can help make life a little easier for the families that come to GOSH in need of specialist clinical care.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a world leader in paediatric treatment and research. With 255,000 patient visits annually, GOSH is a life-line for children and families from across the UK and abroad. They treat children of all ages, who are each battling the most life-threatening and complex conditions.
Whilst the day-to-day running costs of GOSH are covered by the NHS, the charity has a crucial role to play in securing its position as a world-class centre of excellence. The charity funds 4 vital areas: extensive redevelopment of cramped hospital facilities, specialised life-saving paediatric equipment, essential family support programmes and research into improved treatments and cures for the next generation. With the support of Clayton Hotels in the UK, they can make a significant impact to seriously ill children and their families giving them the best possible chance to fulfil their potential.
Clayton Hotels have partnered with GOSH to raise money for parent and family accommodation to support families of children travelling to London for hospital care. Many families come to GOSH from areas outside of London, and for these families the hospital can be their home for several months at a time. Having a quiet and private place to stay close to the hospital is an invaluable lifeline and helps to ease stress and worry.
The charity provides free accommodation in dedicated buildings close to the hospital site. This gives parents and carers a place to get a good night’s sleep, cook healthy meals and take a break from the hospital environment but with the comfort of knowing they can reach the hospital quickly if necessary. Donations from Clayton Hotels will contribute to the running costs and upkeep of Weston House, the hospital’s largest accommodation unit.
Weston House focuses on providing accommodation for patients and their parents or carers before their admission to GOSH for an inpatient stay, day case procedure or after their discharge. Priority for this accommodation is given to families from outside of London. There are 30 en-suite bedrooms as well as eight ‘care by parent’ flats. These flats are for children that no longer need to be on a hospital ward but, due to ongoing treatment, do need to be near the hospital – for example dialysis and transplant patients. These flats allow patients and their parents to adjust to new equipment or medication before going home.
