Shopping in Cork city centre
The main street of Cork city, Patrick Street, traditionally is the central shopping area with a wide range of department stores and big name fashion outlets including Brown Thomas, Dunnes, Debenhams, French Connection and Penneys. There are many streets that feed off Patrick Street, including Princes Street where you can access The English Market, French Church Street and Opera Lane.
The English Market is one of the oldest markets of its kind, supplying the people of Cork and its visitors with a wide range of stalls to browse. These include fresh meat, fish, poultry, fresh fruit and vegetables, many local cheeses, smoked salmon, olives, spices, confectionery and Cork’s traditional Tripe and Drisheen stall.
French Church Street has a number of little shops and boutiques hidden away on its narrow pedestrianised street. There are a variety of shops ranging from clothes, shoes and chocolate shops. There are also a number of cafés with heated outside seating so there’s always a lively atmosphere.
Opera Lane is the most recent and modern addition to Cork’s retail quarter. This pedestrianised street provides a range of well know fashion retail outlets including River Island, H&M, TopShop, GAP, Next, New Look, Office, Skechers and Tommy Hilfiger.
Across the north side of the River Lee on MacCurtain Street you’ll find a range of antique shops, musical instrument shops and cafés.
Shopping centres in Cork
Mahon Point Shopping Centre is the largest shopping centre outside of Dublin and is easily accessible from the city centre. It has a wide range of retail outlets including Debenhams, Oasis, Zara, Next, Monsoon, French Connection, Carraig Donn, Champions Sports, Best Menswear and Pamela Scott.
