Sustainability

At Clayton Hotel Burlington Road we understand the importance of sustainability and reducing the impact on the environment. Sustainability permeates everything we do here, so much so that at the Facilities Management Awards 2018 we were Finalists in three categories: Excellence in Sustainability, FM Professional of the Year and FM Team of the Year.

What are we doing about it?

Electricity

All guest corridor lighting has been changed from PL to LED light fittings. There were 652 fittings in total changed reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the hotel.

We replaced all bedroom light bulbs from PL to LED type also which amounted to a replacement of 2008 new LED bulbs

We constantly measure energy consumption throughout the hotel via our BMS system to ensure the property is as efficient as possible.

Two new passenger lifts installed which have increased reliability and reduce energy consumption.

Gas

We have 3 main twin boilers which were installed in 2013.These are cutting edge technology and they are monitored via their out-station panels and via the BMS system to ensure they are running at their most efficient temperatures and times and regularly serviced.

90% of our HWS pumps are run on their own standalone variable speed drives (VSD’s) to ensure maximum efficiency and use of the hot water provided via our boilers and they are serviced regularly.

Daily checks of bedroom thermostatic valves on radiators to ensure there is not any waste of heat and that these are turned off should the room be vacant. They are also on setting 3 during occupancy to ensure maximum efficiency and guest comfort.

Water

We have aerators fitted to all our showers and sinks to ensure there is minimum waste of water throughout our 502 bedrooms and that maximum efficiency is ensured from our water supply.

Regular monitoring of water meter readings to ensure any leaks are identified immediately and actioned again to ensure there is maximum efficiency of our supplies.

Upgrades to kitchen equipment to ensure minimum water usage including a new 7 meter long conveyor dishwasher which is one of the largest and most efficient in the country.

Food Waste Management

Food Production & Retail: Unsold or uneaten food no longer fit for consumption is collected by FSM .

Food Waste at our plant: The food waste is brought to the FSM plant in Co. Meath where it is separated from its packaging. The food is sent to the A.D. anaerobic digestion plant and packaging is sent for further recycling.

Anaerobic Digestion: At the A.D. plant, the food is broken down in large sealed tanks by bacteria, (much like what happens in the human digestive system). This process produces methane gas and a residue known as digestate.

Biogas onwards: The bio-methane gas is then fed into engines which produce electricity to be fed directly into the national grid.

Agriculture & Electricity: The digestate is used to produce a compost like fertiliser for use in Agriculture.

Why Is Sustainability Important To Us?

  • Reduce our impact on the environment
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Reduce the carbon footprint of the hotel
  • Maximum comfort of guests
  • Innovation in the kitchen
