Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
Bunratty Castle & Folk Park is comprised of four different areas: Bunratty Castle; Bunratty Folk Park; Bunratty Walled Gardens; and The Bunratty Collection.
Bunratty Castle is in existence since 1250. It can trace its routes to Norman origins and is steeped in Irish history. The structure which currently sits in Bunratty was built in 1425. Over the years it has been home to some of Munster’s most famous families the McNamaras and the O’Briens and its lands were also granted to Plantation families over the years.
In 1945 a large scale refurbishment programme began to restore Bunratty Castle and make it the national monument it is today.
Village Street & Bunratty Fairy Village
Bunratty Folk Park allows you to experience what it was like to live in 19th Century Ireland. There are two main areas to Bunratty Folk Park, The Village Street & Bunratty Fairy Village. The Village Street includes a selection of both houses and shops and even has its own fully functioning bar at the top of the street called McNamara & Sons, there perfect place to stop for a pint during your day exploring this little piece of history. Bunratty Fairy Village is a new addition to the Folk Park & is perfect for children to explore & try to catch a glimpse of some magical creatures.
Bunratty Castle is also famous for the medieval banquets that it hosts twice daily all year round.
