Hotel near Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre
Located in the beautiful picturesque town of Dalkey, just ten miles south of Dublin City, Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre is the perfect day out in Dublin!
Dalkey Castle is one of the seven fortified town houses/castles of Dalkey. The castle was used to store and protect goods which were brought in through Dublin Port. The castle contained many defensive features, some of which you can see today such as Machicolation, Murder Hole, Battlements and arrow-loop windows. Dalkey Castle also boasts barrel-vaulted ceilings and traces of the wicker work that supported it. Niches have been exposed on the walls where precious goods may have been stored. Today, the castle is an integral entrance to both the Heritage Centre and Dalkey Town Hall.
All visits to the castle are guided and must be pre-booked. Visitors will have the chance to experience what life was like in the Middle Ages with the Living History Tour. The costumed Living History actors will bring you on a journey through history in a fun and entertaining way.
On the site you will also discover an early church and graveyard dating back to 700AD, heritage centre with interactive screens and a writers gallery featuring the work of 45 writers and creative artists.
