Kilmainham Gaol
Located in Dublin 8 and just a short distance from the city centre, is famous for detaining leaders of the main rebellions in Irish history. Key political and military leaders including Charles Stewart Parnell, the leader of the 1916 rising and Eamon de Valera were held in the gaol. A visit to Kilmainham Gaol provides a realistic insight into what prisoners experienced here between 1796 and 1924 when it closed.
