SS Nomadic
The only surviving steamship of the White Star Line launched in 1911. Built alongside the Titanic, restored and back home to Belfast, it is now located in the Titanic Quarter next to the exhibition. The Nomadic transported the first and second class passengers from the dockside out to the Titanic in Cherbourg. It is now the last remaining White Star line ship in the world and a member of the core collection of the National Historic Ships register.
Nomadic is known as “Titanic’s little sister” as it is designed and luxuriously fitted by the same people who did Titanic, albeit a quarter of its sister’s size. With over 100 years of maritime history, including active service in World Wars I and II and transporting thousands of passengers to the world’s largest trans-Atlantic liners. At some point, it even became a restaurant and party venue in Paris.
Now that it is back home in Belfast after a century, restored to its former glory, the Nomadic is now looking to welcoming a whole new generation of visitors on board.
During the tour, you will explore the four decks of the Nomadic which will transport you back to how it would have been like being a passenger of this luxurious ‘mini Titanic’. You can even dress up in their era for a more authentic experience!
Walk in the same steps taken by some of its famous passengers which include the world’s richest men like Benjamin Guggenheim, first women Nobel Prize winner, Marie Curie, and Hollywood stars like Charlie Chaplin, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton.
The tour is presented through a variety of interactive, hands-on, technical and traditional story-telling which makes make it enjoyable and interesting to audiences of all ages.
