Elegant and stylish, Clayton Hotel Charlemont is steeped in history, set on Irelands famous Grand Canal, with a central location accessible from all sides of Dublin City. Carefully designed to marry modern architecture with historic Dublin, our hotel is set around two 18th-Century Georgian buildings, known as 36 and 37 Charlemont Street, which have been restored to their former glory and converted into hybrid meeting rooms and luxury hotel bedrooms. Our Beautiful Georgian buildings are the proud feature of the lobby space, which link to a four-storey hotel by our stunning Atrium, which floods the entire space with natural daylight.

Take a Step Back in Time

Our unique hotel is surrounded by history and beautiful stories, which is embedded in Clayton Hotel Charlemont’s identity. No. 35 Charlemont Street is the birthplace of the great Irish-American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, born in 1848. Saint-Gaudens was famous for many extraordinary public monuments in America and for designing one of the United States coins, The Double Eagle. The sculptor was well documented in saying, “What Garlic is to salad, insanity is to art”, and after discovering this quote, we decided to name our unique restaurant, Gaudens Restaurant. Interlocking the building’s fascinating history with the character and charm of our hotel.

Number 37 Charlemont Street was previously known as St. Ultan’s Infant Hospital, which was the first infant hospital in Ireland, founded in 1919 by Kathleen Lynn and Madeleine Ffrench-Mullen. Both women dedicated their lives to improving the living conditions of the poor. In memory of them, our executive boardrooms have been named Lynn Mullen and Saint Ultan’s. A plaque in their honour has been unveiled on the building in 2022.
