Cliffs of Moher

Only an hour’s drive south from Clayton Hotel Galway are the world famous Cliffs of Moher. Standing 214m (702 feet) at their highest point they stretch for 8 kilometres (5 miles) along the Atlantic coast of county Clare in the west of Ireland. From the Cliffs of Moher on a clear day one can see to the north, the Aran Islands and Galway Bay and to the south; Loop Head, Dingle Peninsula and Blasket Islands in Kerry.

There are an estimated 30,000 birds living on the cliffs, representing more than 20 species. These include Atlantic puffins, which live in large colonies at isolated parts of the cliffs and on the small Goat Island, and razorbills. O’Brien’s tower stands near the highest point and has served as a viewing point for visitors for hundreds of years.
