    Cambridge Cycle Routes

    Now that the weather is beginning to warm up, it's the ideal time fore a cycle through the local scenery of Cambridge. Whether you’re trying to stay fit, training for a big race or you simply want to see more of Cambridge, these routes are some of the best in the area.

    Cambridge to Waterbeach

    Length: 6.5 miles


    This scenic cycle route will take you from the heart of Cambridge to the gorgeous village of Waterbeach. Start your journey by kicking off the pedals at Midsummer Common and make your way alongside the famous River Cam, keeping the water on your left. As you make your way through the scenic suburbs, you’ll come across practising rowers and other cyclists. The modest 6.5-mile length makes this route perfect for a couple’s afternoon ride in the sun.

     
    Wicken Fen Nature Reserve

    Length: 18 miles

    Start your journey at Jesus Green and make your way along the right-hand side of the river before crossing Riverside Bridge and heading down Route 11. Follow the signs for Ely and before you know it, you’ll find yourself at the beautiful Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. Along the way, you’ll discover all kind of natural hidden gems including wildlife and plants.     Wimpole Way

    Length: 11 miles

    Make your way to Barton Road and follow the path that leads to Kingston along Crane’s Lane to find some of the best unspoilt views in Cambridgeshire. The historic Wimpole Estate has stood on the outskirts of Cambridge for centuries and is one of the most beautiful examples of classic architecture in the area. Pedal your way along the path as it snakes through the historic village of Hardwicke. If you’re looking for scenery on your bike ride, this route will make you feel as though you’re travelling back in time.

     

    Cambridge to St. Ives

    Length: 12 miles

    If you’re looking for a nice long ride that will keep your heart rate up and your legs working hard, take a trip over to St. Ives. Set off from King’s Hedges Road and follow the busway under the A14 towards Oakington. The route will lead you through and around some of the most beautiful countryside in Cambridgeshire and the straight line alongside the busway means that if you’re training, you can get your head down and do some serious cycling.

     

    Gog Magog

    Length: 11 miles

    Discover the hills of Cambridge as you put your legs to work on this difficult but rewarding route. Follow Hills Road south before heading left towards Wort’s Causeway. Soon enough you’ll find yourself pedalling up and down the Chalk Downs and while your legs may suffer slightly, your eyes will be rewarded with incredible views of rolling hills and gaping valleys.
