1. Welcome

This Access Welcome Guide has been prepared to provide clear and accurate information about the accessibility of our hotel. It is designed to help guests with disabilities, older guests, families, and anyone with additional access needs to plan their visit with confidence. 

We are committed to improving accessibility in line with Irish accessibility guidance, universal design principles, and inclusive hospitality standards. 

Our team is available to assist before and during your stay to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

From Cork Airport:

Clayton Hotel Cork City is only 7.5km from Cork Airport.

Driving

  • Cork Airport is at the south end of the N27 when coming from the north, west, or east of Cork and off the R600 when coming from Kinsale. You can also arrange car hire at the Cork International Airport. Guest relations and the front office team at the hotel would be happy to make some suggestions for you.

 

Aircoach

  • Bus Eireann’s Aircoach service provides a frequent bus service from Cork Airport to

  • Cork Bus Station which is located along-side Clayton Hotel Cork City.

 

Taxi

  • Taxis are available from outside the arrival hall at Cork Airport and cost from approximately €12-€15 to Clayton Hotel Cork City.

 

From Kent Street Train Station

  • Clayton Hotel Cork City is only a 5-minutewalk from Kent Street Train Station.

  • Come out of the train station and exit left from the station and following the footpath and head towards the River Lee, once you are alongside the riveryou will see Clayton

  • Hotel Cork City ahead of you.

     

From Cork Parnell Place Bus Station

  • Clayton Hotel Cork City is only a 1-minute walk from Cork Parnell Place Bus Station.

  • Come out of bus station and exit right and right again and you will see Clayton Hotel

  • Cork City just ahead of you.

 

From Dublin

Driving

  • Continue onto M7 (signs for Limerick/Cork/Waterford/M8/M9)

  • Take the exit towards N8/Cork/Gleann Maghair/R623

  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit

  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the E Cork Pkwy/N25/N8 slip road

  • Slight right to merge onto E Cork Pkwy/N25/N8

  • Continue to follow E Cork Pkwy/N8

  • At Dunkettle Roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Lower Glanmire Rd/N8 heading to Cork/N20/Limerick

  • Turn left onto Brian Boru Brg/N8 Continue straight onto Clontarf St/R610

  • Destination will be on the left

From Limerick

Driving

  • Directions from Limerick/ Mallow (N20) – (35kms).

  • Start out at Mallow, Cork. Follow signs Cork (N20).

  • Pass through the village of ‘Rathduff’. Junction with R635 (Cork North Ring).

  • At traffic signals turn right (Signposted City Centre-N20). Stay in left lane.

  • Travel through 6 sets of traffic lights. At 7th set, Statoil Station on your left, Heineken Ireland on your right, go through these lights.

  • Travel straight to the next set of light and travel over the bridge (verging to the left) with the Cork Opera House on your right-hand side. Turn left and travel to the next set of traffic light.

  • Go straight through and continue past next set of traffic lights (at the Cork Bus Station on your right).

  • Enter the right-handlane and turn right at the next set of traffic lights.

  • Take 1st left turn which is approx. 30 metres from the previous lights.

  • Clayton Hotel Cork City is now on your right and turn right to access the Lapps Quay car park.

Public transport options operate within the area, and staff can assist guests with information on accessible routes, nearby stops, and transport services. For guests travelling by taxi or accessible transport providers, there is a convenient drop-off point close to the entrance of the building.

Guests are welcome to contact us before arrival if they require guidance on the easiest route or assistance planning their journey.

Parking Facilities

Parking is available for guests close to the building. The route from the parking area to the entrance is designed to be as straightforward and accessible as possible.

Where accessible parking spaces are provided, they are located near the entrance to reduce travel distance. The surface of the parking area is firm and even to support safe movement for wheelchair users and guests with mobility aids. Lighting is provided in the parking area to ensure visibility and safety during evening arrivals.

 

Parking is available at either Lapps Quay Cark Park or Q-Park Cork City Hall.

Lapps Quay Public Car Park

Located in the basement of Clayton Hotel Cork City.

  • Guests of the hotel can avail of a special rate of €12.00 per night which is valid from 3pm on the day of arrival to 12noon the following day.

  • This rate is valid for a one-car single entry and exit.

  • The ticket must be stamped at reception and is payable directly at car park pay stations.

  • Lapps Quay car park maximum height is 6 ft. 7 in. (2.00 meters).

Q-Park Cork City Hall

  • Located on Eglinton St. and just a 4-minutewalk from Clayton Hotel Cork City.

  • Guests can avail of parking at Q-Park Cork City Hall at a discounted rate once booked in advance online https://www.q-park.ie/en-gb/cities/cork/city-hall/  using promotional code: CLAYCRK25

  • Q-Park Cork City Hall maximum height for cars is 1.95m.

4. Entrance & Reception

The main entrance is clearly visible and signposted. The route leading to the entrance is designed to be easy to follow and accessible for guests arriving on foot or using mobility aids.

Where step-free access is available, it allows guests to enter the building comfortably. If an alternative accessible entrance is required, signage and staff assistance are available to guide guests. 

The entrance area is well lit and maintained to ensure safety and ease of access for all visitors.

Reception is located close to the main entrance and serves as the primary point of contact for guests when they arrive.

Our reception staff are trained to assist guests with a range of access needs and will take the time to communicate clearly and provide any assistance required. Guests who need additional time or support during check-in will be accommodated with patience and understanding.

Seating is available near the reception area for guests who prefer to sit while checking in or waiting for assistance. Staff are also happy to help with luggage and provide an orientation of the property.

5. Lift Access

Where lifts are available, they provide access to different levels of the building. There is 24-hour guest assistance available to guide guests to their rooms or assist them in navigating the property.

6. Accessible Public Toilets

Our wheelchair -accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users, and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements, is available within the main public area. 

This is a step free access, a manoeuvring space of 1500 mm by 1500 mm, an outward-opening door with a minimum width of 800 mm, a transfer space on at least one side of the toilet with a dropdown grab rail on that side, a horizontal grab rail on the wall next to the toilet, and an emergency assistance alarm that can be reached from the floor.

7. Accessible Bedrooms

Our bedrooms are designed to provide comfort, relaxation, and accessibility for a wide range of guests. 

Accessible bedrooms are available and include features that support guests with mobility or other access requirements. Rooms can be rearranged on request to allow guests to create additional space, including access to the bed, storage areas, and other facilities. 

Lighting controls, furniture placement, and room layout have been considered to support ease of use and independence wherever possible. Guests who require a specific room layout or accessibility features are encouraged to contact us before arrival so we can recommend the most suitable option. 

Wheelchair Accessible Bedrooms have step-free access, a minimum door width of 800mm, and an internal circulation space of 1500mm x 1500mm, along with an emergency assistance alarm. 

Bed height is important for accessibility. The hight of the bed from the floor to the top of the mattress is 560 mm. The clear space under the bed – from the floor to the underside of the bed is 170mm. Both double and twin bed configurations are available across wheelchair – accessible bedrooms. 

Not all configurations may be available in every room. There is one wheelchair-accessible bedroom with an adjoiningbedroom

8. Accessible Bathrooms / En‑Suites

Bathrooms within our accommodation are designed to be functional and comfortable for guests. 

Accessible bathrooms are available in designated rooms and provide additional space and features to support guests with mobility needs. Fixtures and fittings are positioned to support ease of use, and surfaces are designed to reduce slipping where possible. 

Guests can choose between rooms with different bathroom types depending on availability. If you have specific requirements regarding bathroom accessibility, please contact us in advance so we can ensure the best possible arrangement for your stay

A wheelchair-accessible bathroom with a roll-in shower is available, providing step-free access, a manoeuvring space of 1500mm x 1500mm, and a minimum outward-opening door width of 800mm. The roll-in shower is free from obstacles such as enclosures, and there is a transfer space on at least one side of the toilet. 

Grab rails are installed by the toilet, shower, along with emergency assistance alarm. 

A free – standing shower chair is available. There is a fixed shower seat

9. Dining & Social Spaces

Restaurant/Breakfast 

(Ground Floor - the venue is all on one level, with no steps or raised thresholds). 

Our dining area is arranged to ensure guests can move easily between tables and seating spaces. Buffet service is provided but staff are available to assist guests who may need help carrying food, locating seating, or understanding menu options.Table service is available.We aim to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where all guests can enjoy their meals comfortably. 

The width of the aisle and main walkway between tables/ chairs is 1200mm to accommodate the room for wheelchair users, strollers and other mobility devises to navigate without obstructions. All tables have at least 700 mm of clear space underneath them to accommodate a wheelchair user. The hight of the food serving counter from the floor to the top of the counter is 760 mmm. All card machines are movable and easy reachable.

Bar 

(Ground Floor -the venue is all on one level, with no steps or raised thresholds) 

Table service is a standard. All tables and chairs are movable, and some at lower height. There is at least 910mm of clear aisle space around some tables and chairs with at least 700 mm of clear space underneath them to accommodate a wheelchair user. Predominantly neutral colours are used on walls and ceiling in the bar/ drink area. 

10. Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the property. We understand the important role they play and will ensure that guests travelling with assistance dogs feel supported and comfortable during their stay. 

If you are planning to bring an assistance dog, please inform us before arrival so we can ensure suitable arrangements are in place.

11. Safety & Staff Training

Our team is available throughout your stay to provide assistance as needed. 

This may include help with accessing facilities, arranging transport, or providing information about the local area. We are committed to ensuring that all guests feel welcome and supported. If there is anything we can do to improve your stay, please let us know. 

Furthermore, every room is equipped with a guest information brochure and a QR code that guests can scan to access information.

First aid: Trained colleagues are on hand. Contact reception by dialling ‘0’ if you need help. We also have two defibrillators available on site.

12. Sensory Story

Welcome to Clayton Hotel Cork City where our famously personal way makes your time with us a little more special. We’re dedicated to experiences centred around you. 

Located in the heart of Cork City centre along the banks of the River Lee, it isa place that has everything from food, culture, and entertainment. Explore the city right from your doorstep before enjoying some personal time with a relaxing dip in our pool or a delicious meal in the Globe Restaurant & Bar! 

The staff in the hotel will always be delighted to help you in any way that is required, whether it be finding a quiet place, your room, or looking for the restaurant –never be afraid to ask! Our hotel staff can be identified by our uniform.

The clothes that the staff member is wearing will depend on what part of the hotel they are working in. 

  • Reception, Managers and Office Staff: primarily navy blazer and pants with a white shirt
  • Food and Beverage Staff (Red Bean Coffee, Breakfast and Globe Restaurant: primarily navy pants with a white shirt and navy apron 

The Journey

Your journey in the hotel will begin either in the car park downstairs, or from outside the main entrance! Entrance to the car park is around the back of the hotel. After your guardian has parked the car, be sure to follow the signs leading to the hotel reception!

Don’t forget to get your parking ticket stamped at reception to avail of our discounted overnight rates! In the case that you came to the hotel another way, you will enter through the main entrance, next to the River Lee! Hopefully the sun is out for your visit also! 

Upon entering the hotel, the first room you will be in is the hotel lobby. Here, there are loads of comfy seats for you to have a rest at any time during your stay. The lobby can be busy at times but don’t hesitate to ask our staff for a quiet area! 

Next, you will make your way to meet our reception team who will be looking forward to meeting you, or use our express check-in at one of our pods. Victor is always happy to help! 

At any time during your stay, the reception team are available to help with any query. Whether is be about your room or the food on offer, they are sure to have an answer! Be sure to ask for the information sheet. This includes key information about the hotel such as opening times and the important numbers to know to dial on the in-room telephones. 

Our elevators offer the easiest and quickest way to reach your room, be sure to scan your key card to use the elevator first. 

After checking into your room, don’t forget to explore what the rest of the hotel has to offer! 

Firstly, the Red Bean Roastery is located next to reception. Here,you can get a freshly made hot drink or sweet treat – just ask one of our brilliant barista’s.

Once you have passed the Red Bean, you have now entered the Atrium. This a open area with loads of seats and couches. While this area can be busy, there are couches tucked away which are perfect for relaxing in peace. 

It is through the Atrium that you will find the breakfast restaurant, where you will be welcomed in and seated by one of our excellent staff members! Our breakfast has a huge range of different foods to ensure that everyone can have something they like. From cereals to fresh fruit, a full Irish fry and a selection of yoghurt, meats, and cheese there is something here for all. Don’t hesitate to ask our staff for a hot drink or freshly prepared porridge or pancakes! 

The Atrium also holds the stairs to our meeting and events area. Up here, there are more couches in a relaxed spacewith less people traffic, ideal for relaxing and escaping from the busy hotel lobby. You can access this space by the lift also. 

For dinner, The Globe is the best place for a tasty dinner in a relaxing environment. We have a range of high tables and low tables and we are more than happy to seat guests in a quiet corner should it be requested. Be sure to keep an eye out for any deals that are on in The Globe!

One of the most exciting things to do during your stay is sure to be in Club Vitae, where you can unwind in our swimming pool. Maria and Shane will be sure to look after you properly.
